Russian Car Market record totters as February sales were up only 2%.

Russian car market in February 2013 was positive again with 210.666 sales. However this time the increase was reduced at only 2.3%, showing the sensational year-on-year growing string is close to be broken. Meanwhile, February was the 34th year-on-year consecutive growing month. Year-to-date sales were 372.743, up 3.8%.

Association of European Business (AEB) has published light commercial vehicles data in Russia for the year 2012. They were 188.905, up 7% from 2011) with GAZ, outplacing UAZ as market leader, in spite sales at 90.247 units were stable from the previous year. UAZ occupies the second place with 27.885, up 6%, followed by Volkswagen with 16.161 vehicles, up 31%.

Looking at the best brands performance:

Autovaz following months of little share recovery hit by new Granta success, in February the domestic producer, controlled by Renault, had lost share again. Indeed, sales were 36.910 and share 17.5%, down 1.0 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 66.947 with a share of 18.0%, down 0.2 points from Full Year 2012. The Samara confirmed the sales decline, falling in 24th place.

Renault in 2nd sold 15.300 units with a share of 7.3%, down 1.8 points of share from the great January performance. Year-to-date sales were 30.041 with a share of 8.1%, up 1.6 points from last year. The new Renault star, the Duster, was a bit weaker last month, losing 2 spots and landing in 6th place.

Kia was 3rd with 14.094 units and a share of 6.7%, down 0.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 25.153 with a share of 6.7%, slightly up from last year. The top model Rio soared in 4th place.

Volkswagen was 4th, up 1 spot, with 13.800 units and a flat share of 6.6%. Year-to-date it was 5th with 24.468 sales and with share at 6.6%, up 0.5 points from last year. Polo was 7th and Tiguan 21st.

Hyundai was 5th with 13.489 sales and a share of 6.4%, down 0.6 points from the previous month. YTD it was 4th with 24.795 sales and a share of 6.7%, up 0.7 points from last year. While Solaris was stable in 2nd, the ix35 climbed in 21st.

Nissan was 6th selling 13.126 vehicles with a share of 6.2%, up 0.7 points from the previous month. Year-to-date it was 7th with 22.051 sales and a share of 5.9%, up 0.6 points from Full Year 2012. The top model Qashqai recovered the 12th place.

Chevrolet was 7th with 13.023 sales and a share of 6.2%, up 0.3 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 22.565 with a share of 6.1%, down 0.9 points from the full year 2012. The best-selling model was the Niva 9th this month.

Toyota was stable in 8th with 8.337 sales and 4.0% of share, down 0.2 points from the previous month. Year-to-date February sales were 15.197 with a share of 4.1%, down 1.2 points from the Full Year 2012. The Camry was back in the Top 25 models, surging in 20th.

Opel surged in 9th place with 7.174 sales and a share of 3.4%, up 0.2 from the previous month. Year-to-date it was 11th with 12.385 sales and a share of 3.3%, up 0.5 points from last year.

Ford dropped in 10th place with 7.051 units and a share of 3.3%, down 0.6 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 13.415 with a share of 3.6%, down 0.9 points from the Full Year 2012.

Among top models, Lada Granta had lost same share from January, with 12.207 units and a share of 5.8%.

Hyundai Solaris confirmed the second place with 8.425 sales and a share of 4.0%, down 0.5 points from the previous month, ahead of the Kalina, stable in third place with 7.151 sales and a share of 3.4%.

Kia Rio was 4th with 6.768 sales and 3.2% of share, up 0.3 points, followed by Lada Priora, with 6.509 sales and 3.1% of share.

Renault Duster was back in 6th place with 5.964 sales and with a share of 2.8%, down 0.5 points from the previous month.

Behind Polo was 7th, Focus 8th, Niva 9th and the Nexia 10th.
