Russian New Vehicles industry dropped heavy in August

Russian New Vehicles

Russian New Vehicles industry dropped heavy in August hitting the 20th y.o.y fall in a string. Autovaz gained share and now is stable over 18% but far from the official 20% target for this year.

Market Outlook

The Russian economy contracted a further 0.6% annually in Q2 2016 according to a preliminary estimate, which marks the slowest decrease since the economy began to contract in 2015 and a significant improvement over Q1 when it shrank 1.2%.

Although economic growth is absent, recent data suggest that the recovery remains on track. In July, industrial production surprised with a contraction after three consecutive increases, yet a fourth consecutive drop in unemployment offset the miss in industrial output.

Meantime the Russian cars sales lost volume further in August, scoring the 20th year on year fall down in a row.

Indeed, according to data released by the AEB, the Association of European Businesses in Russia, in August the domestic vehicles sales have been 113.733, down 18.0%.

Year to date August the total sales volume declined at 894.874, down 15.0%.

As far as the Car Groups performance, the leader was Renault-Nissan with 32.7% of market share, ahead of Hyundai-Kia with 20.8%, Volkswagen with 11.6%, Toyota with 9.5% and UAZ Group with 3.7%.
