South Africa car market statistics

South Africa car market statistics for February show a stable market that is moving horizontally in absence of robust drivers to take an up or down direction. Ford shines thanks to booming results on the compact SUV EcoSport.

In February 2015 according to data released by NAAMSA, the Federation of South African Car Manufacturers, total new Light Passengers Vehicles sold in South Africa have been 50.048, up 1.5% from the correspondent period last year.

Year to date sales have been100.490, flat from last year.

In February Toyota sold 9.751 units (+3.5%) with 19.5% of market share and was followed by Volkswagen with 7.058 sales (-10.3%) and by a strong Ford with 6.349 units, +18.4%.

Three brands scored heavy losses: Hyundai (5th with 3.250 sales, -16.4%), Chevrolet (6th with 2.677 units, -20.3%) and Audi (11th with 1.252 units, -29.4%).

Two brands boomed: Opel (14th with 624 sales, +99.6%) and Honda (10th with 1.411 sales, +97.3%).

As far as the Group’s ranking, the leader was Toyota with 19.6% of share, ahead of Volkswagen group with 16.9% and Ford with 12.7%,

As far as the best-selling models, leader was the Volkswagen Polo with 4.556 sales (-15.9%) followed by the Toyota Hilux with 3.097 units (-9.4%) and the Ford Ranger with 3.078 units (+58.7%).

Amazing the Ford Ecosport +608.6% jumping in 8th place in the ranking.
