Sweden Cars Market in May 2016

Sweden Cars Market in May 2016 tops the 29th up in a row keeping the impressive track with sales above all time level. Series 5 and Yaris pushed up BMW and Toyota, but the star was Kia, advanced in third!

Market Outlook

Sweden’s solid economic momentum appears to be abating. In Q1, GDP expanded 0.5% over the previous quarter, marking a slowdown from the 1.6% expansion recorded in Q4. Last year, growth has been buoyed by an ultra-lose monetary policy, a strong housing market that has supported private consumption as well high government spending associated with the recent influx of migrants.

Meantime the demand for new vehicles maintained the momentum improving month after month.

According to data released by the BIL Sweden, the Swedish Associations of Car Manufacturers, in April the new cars passenger sold had been 33.580, up 10.0%, followed by a more productive May with an improving 17.0% selling 34.475 units. May represents the 29th consecutive Y.o.Y. growth in a row.

Year to date the total vehicles sold had been 151.284, up 11.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Competitive Arena

Volvo in May was pushing the sales up with 6.534 registrations (+15.1%) and 19.5% of market share, ahead of Volkswagen with 5.296 units (+25.3%) and  Kia with 2.069 sales (+28.7%).

Out of podium was Toyota with 1.985 (+21.9%), BMW with 1.971 (+27.7%), Audi with 1.968 (+23.8%), Skoda with 1.682 (+12.8%) and Mercedes with 1.528 (+36.1%).

The best-selling model ranking was as usual dominated by local-made models with the Volvo V70 on top of the list with 2.684 units (+23.3%) ahead of the Volkswagen Golf with 2.149 (+11.2%) and the Volkswagen Passat with 1.676 (+52.9%). The Volvo S/V60 was fourth with 1.536 (+51.5%) followed by the Volvo XC60 with 1.106 (-19.8%) and the Volvo V40 with 1.009 (+32.8%).
