Thai Light Vehicle Sales hit the 21st fall in a row in March

Thai Light Vehicle Sales

Thai Light Vehicle Sales hit the 21st fall in a row in March while the next quarter is foreseen improved. Toyota market share surged at 37% while Hilux, D-Max and Yaris led the models ranking.

Economic Outlook

Thailand’s economy hit a three-year low in 2014 and economic data from the first months of the year show that growth remains sluggish. In February, monthly data indicate that private investment and private consumption contracted on an annual basis as both consumers and businesses were cautious about spending.

In the same month, exports contracted at the sharpest rate in six months reflecting faltering demand from China and the ASEAN countries. In more recent news, Thailand could face a trade ban from the European Union if it doesn’t crack down on illegal fishing in the next six months.

Acknowledging that the ban could cost the country nearly half a billion euros in annual exports, the Thai government has declared that it is systematically working on tackling unregulated fishing in order to meet the union’s six-month deadline.

Market Outlook

In March 2015 according to data released by T.A.I.A, the Thai Automotive Industry Association, total new Light Passengers Vehicles sold in Thailand have been 72.862, down 12.0% compared with the correspondent month last year, posting the 21th consecutive fall in a row.

First Quarter was negative with sales at 194.681, down 11.0%. Starting from April the market should navigate in a single digit decline, before interrupting the fall in the second half. Full year forecast was unchanged at 809.000, down 6.2%
