The Netherlands: August 2013 Car Sales down 13%. Toyota on podium thanks to Aygo & Auris.

Accordingly with data released by Raivereniging, the Dutch Association of Car Makers, in August 2013 cars registered in The Netherlands were 28.623, down 13.3% from last year, the 8th year-on-year decline in a row.

In first half 2013, this market was the worldwide 4th worst car market, losing 34.6% from the previous year. The trend was softened during the summer while year to date August sales were down 31.4% at 271.122.

At the end of 2012, this market ranked 23rd globally, but it is now projected out of Top 25 by the end of this year.

Looking at last month top brands performance:

Volkswagen in 1st posted a negative month, selling 3.182 vehicles with a share of 11.1%, down 1.0 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 32.981 with a share of 12.2%, up 0.2 points from 2012. Volkswagen held 3 models in the top 50, with the Golf in 3rd position.

Renault maintained the 2nd position, selling 3.025 units with a share of 10.6%, stable from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 23.324 with a share of 8.6%, down 0.1 points from 2012. Renault held 5 models in the top 50, with the Clio as market leader.

Toyota jumped in 3rd position, up 3 spots from July, pushed up by strong sales on Aygo and Auris. Sales were 2.333 with a share of 8.2%, up 1.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 16.621 with a share of 6.1%. Toyota held 4 models in the top 50, with the Aygo in 9th position.

Peugeot rose in 4th position, selling 2.268 vehicles with a share of 7.9%, up 0.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 20.997 with a share of 7.8%. The best-selling model was the 107 in 2nd position.

Ford fell to the 5th position, selling 2.080 units with a share of 7.3%, down 0.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 22.464 with a share of 8.3%. The top model was the Fiesta in 7th position.

Kia was 6th selling 1.566 vehicles with a share of 5.5%, down 1.1 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 17.486 with a share of 6.5%. The top model was the Picanto in 14th position.

Renault Clio was the market leader, up 1 spot from July, with 1.241 sales and a share of 4.3%, down 0.8 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 7.664 with a share of 2.8%.

Peugeot 107 was 2nd, up 7 spots from July, with 983 units and a share of 3.4%, up 1.1 points from the previous month, followed by Volkswagen Golf in 3rd with 974 sales and a share of 3.4%, down 0.3 points from July.

Volkswagen Up! was 4th with 939 units and a share of 3.3%, down 0.1 points from the previous month, followed by Volvo V40 in 5th, down 4 spots, with 836 sales and a share of 2.9%, down 2.4 points from the previous month, and by Renault Megane in 6th, up 2 spots, with 755 sales and a share of 2.6%, down 0.2 points from the previous month.

Ford Fiesta was 7th, up 8 spots from July, with 737 units and a share of 2.6%, up 0.8 points from the previous month, followed by Ford Focus in 8th, down 3 spots, with 731 sales and a share of 2.6%, down 0.5 points from the previous month.
