Uganda Vehicles Market in 2015 hit the new all time record booming 44%. However this industry is young and a wide space for growing is yet available. Toyota is leader with 38% of market share. Tata shines.

Economic Outlook

The electoral commission confirmed that Yoweri Museveni won the presidential elections that were held on 18 February and thus extended his 30-year rule. The election, however, was marred by violent outbreaks and allegations of ballot rigging and intimidation.

While the atmosphere is likely to remain tense, the fact that opposition forces are questioning the validity of the results will not change the outcome. Meanwhile, growth moderated slightly in Q3, although it did still expand a robust 6.4% (Q2: +6.5% year-on-year). Improved dynamics in the agriculture and services sectors nearly offset weaker growth in industrial activities.

Market Outlook

According to data released by the Association of Car Importers, in the 2015 total vehicles sold in Uganda had been 2.784, up 44.1%, hitting the new all-time record level.

The market is dominated by pick-ups and SUV, mainly made in Japan. Toyota was the market leader selling 1.019 vehicles or 39.3% of total market. The second player was Tata with 469 sales and the third was Mitsubishi with 326 units.
