Ukraine: 2012 Car Market advanced 25%. Hyundai new market leader.

Following the 23.5% recovery posted in the 2011, the Ukraine car market confirmed the growth and in 2012 sales were 262.633, up 25.3%. In the year Ukraine was the World’s 35th car market.

In December sales were 24.212, up 8.0% from last year with the wonderful performance posted by the Chinese Geely, able to surge in second place and to keep the leadership among models.

Forecast for 2013 are further positive with market above 300.000 units.

Looking at top brands performance:

Hyundai ended the year confirming the leadership for the first time ever. In December sales were 2.106 with a share of 8.7%, down 0.3 points of share from the previous month. Full Year sales were 23.789 with a share of 9.1%, down 1.4 points of share. So, Hyundai had got the leadership in spite of losing share! The top model was the Accent, 2nd this month and 3rd in the whole year.

Geely was close to the leadership, jumping in second place with 2.081 sales and a share of 8.6%, up 6.4 points from the previous month (penalized by short supply), and up 4.1 points from Q3. Full Year it was 10th with 11.236 sales and 4.3% of share. Geely kept the market leadership among models with the CK surged as first.

Lada was 3rd, selling 1.998 units with a share of 8.3%, up 0.2 points of share from the previous month. Full Year Lada was second losing the leadership, for the very first time. Sales were 22.894 with a share of 8.8%, down 4.9 points from the previous year. Samara in 5th place was the best model.

Volkswagen was 4th with 1.743 sales and a share of 7.2%, down 0.9 points of share from the previous month. Full Year it was third and sales were 19.133 with a share of 7.3%, up 2.4 points from last year. The best-selling model was the Polo, 7th this month and in the entire year.

Zaz was 5th selling 1.525 vehicles with a share of 6.3%, down 1.0 points of share from the previous month. Full Year it was 4th. Sales were 16.215 with share of 7.1%, down 3.4 points from last year. Sens in 4th was the top model.

Renault was 6th selling 1.519 units with a share of 6.3%, down 1.4 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 15.811 with a share of 6.1%, up 0.6 points from last year. Logan was 6th in the month and 5th in the year.

Toyota was 7th with 1.384 sales and a share of 5.7%, down 0.4 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 15.683 with a share of 6.0%, down 0.2 points from the previous year. Camry, the top model, was only 22nd this month.

Kia was 8th selling 1.324 units with a share of 5.5%, down 0.7 points from the previous month. Full Year it was 5th with 16.215 sales and a share of 6.2%, up 1.7 points from 2011. The best-selling model was the Rio in 10th this month and in 6th in the year.

Looking at the best-selling models, it was memorable the jump of a Chinese model, the Geely CK, from the 50th to the leadership, with 907 sales and a share of 3.7%. A Chinese model on top of the market represented a real revolution for this market.

Hyundai Accent was second, up 3 spots, with 662 sales and a share of 2.7%, while third was the Skoda Octavia, which was the 2012 market leader.

Zaz Sens was 4th with 650sales followed by the Lada Samara, 5th with 582 sales and the Logan, 6th with 576 sales.

The Polo was stable in 7th place followed by the Zaz Vida and Lada 4×4. Kia Rio was 10th.

Remarkable another Geely model performance, the Emgrand EC7, jumped in 13th from 62nd.
