United Arab Emirates car market 2012 outlook: Toyota dominates.

Pushed by positive economic environment, the United Arab Emirates car market is growing year after year. In the 2011 the market signed the all-time record with 243.582 units, up 12% from 2010, and was the third in the Middle East, after Turkey and Saudi Arabia and the 34th globally.

As far as full year 2012, focus2move projection is for 275.000, up 12.2%. In case, this would be the new record year.

The market is characterized by consumer’s average high income, with high luxury brands share and by the hot climate and desert territory, with high mix of off-road and pick up models.

Japanese had colonized the market, with 5 brands in the best 10 selling brand.

In the five months 2012, Toyota confirmed its strong leadership over the market, selling 38.913 units with a share of 34%, up 1.6 points of share from full year 2011. Nissan was second with 16.248 units and a share of 15%, up 0.5 points from last year.

After a strong increase in the 2011, Hyundai continue to progress and is now third, with 7.426 sales and 6.3% share, up 2.4% from last year.

Mitsubishi is struggling and has lost the third position. Year to date May it sold 6.614 units with a share of 6.0%, down 2.4 points from last year. Ford in fifth position is the first not Japanese, with 5.122 sales and a share of 4.3%, up 1.5 from last year.

Looking at the best models in March (we can provide them thanks to www.bestsellingcarsblog.com), the Toyota Hilux is the market leader. In Q1 2012 it was sold in11.415 units with a market share of 5.9%, up 1.2 points of share from last year.

The second is the Toyota Corolla, with 12288 sales and 4.8% of share, followed by the Toyota Land Cruiser, with 3.261 units and 4.6% share. Three Toyota in the podium!
