U.S.A. August hot car market near to all-time record volume.

Overall U.S. light passenger vehicles sales rose 16.8% in August at 1.501.191, a volume very close to the monthly record posted in the 2003. August was the 27th year-on-year increase in a string. Year-to-date sales were 10.635.179, up 9.6%.

Among major players, the only automakers without a double-digit August sales increase were Volkswagen Group of America, up 4%, and Hyundai/Kia of America, 6% higher. Both comparisons were to strong year-ago volume. General Motors’ Cadillac led all domestic brands with a 38 percent gain, with Buick close behind at 37 percent.

The European brands, whose sales have slumped on their home turf, did just fine in the US with BMW’s sales rising 45 percent. Mercedes-Benz rolled to a 20.5 percent increase and Audi was up 21.5 percent while Porsche set its all-time August record. Jaguar’s sales rose a whopping 67 percent.

Looking at the Top Brands performance:

Ford sold 212.212 vehicles with a share of 14.1%, down 0.1 point of share from the previous month. As reported by Ford, this was the best sales month in seven years. Year-to-date August sales were 1.649.821 with a share of 15.5%. Ford held 6 models in the top 50, with the F-Series as market leader.

Toyota was 2nd (3rd year-to-date) selling 194.047 units with a share of 12.9%, up 0.4 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 1.313.525 with a share of 12.3%. Toyota held 8 models in the top 50, with the Camry in 2nd position.

Chevrolet was in 3rd position (2nd year-to-date) selling 187.740 units with a share of 12.5%, up 0.1 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 1.365.544 with a share of 12.8%. Chevrolet held 6 models in the top 50, with the Silverado in 3rd position.

Honda kept the 4th position, posting a beautiful month with 149.381 sales and a share of 10%, up 0.4 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 944.267 with a share of 8.9%. The top model was Civic in 4th position.

Nissan in 5th sold 108.614 units with a share of 7.2%, down 0.5 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 782.369 with a share of 7.4%. The best-selling model was again the Altima in 8th position.

Hyundai in 6th sold 66.101 vehicles with a share of 4.4%, down 0.6 points of share from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 493.116 with a share of 4.6% The Elantra was 13th.

Dodge gained the 7th position in August and also year-to-date selling 52.858 units with a share of 3.5%, up 0.3 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 413.258 with a share of 3.9%. The top model was the RAM was 7th.

Kia was 8th losing 1 spot (8th year-to-date) selling 52.025 units with a share of 3.5%, up 0.2 points from the previous month. Year-to-date sales were 378.380 with a share of 3.6%.The best-selling model was the Optima in 26th.

Jeep was 9th (9th year-to-date) selling 46.239 units with a share of 3.1%, down 0.1 point from July. Year-to-date sales were 317.921 with a share of 3.0%. The Grand Cherokee was 19th.

GMC was 10th selling 43.202 vehicles with a share of 2.7%, down 0.1 point from July. Year-to-date sales were 303.254 with a share of 2.9%.The best-selling model was the Sierra in 18th position.

Ford F-Series was the market leader with 71.115 units and a share of 4.6, up 0.1 points from the previous month. Ford F-Series sold more than 70.000 vehicles for the second time in 2013. Year-to-date sales were 499.050 with a share of 4.7%.

Toyota Camry climbed to the 2nd position with 44.713 sales and a share of 3.0%, up 0.4 from July, followed by Chevrolet Silverado was 3rd with 43.603 units and a share of 2.9%, down 0.3 points from the previous month.

Honda Civic was 4th with 39.458 units and a share of 2.6%, up 0.1 points from the previous month, followed by Honda Accord in 5th with 38.559 sales and a share of 2.6%, up 0.2 points from July, and by Honda CR-V in 6th, up 2 spot, with 34.654 sales and a share of 2.3%, up 0.2 points from the previous month.

Dodge RAM was 7th with 33.009 units and a share of 2.2%, down 0.2 points from the previous month, followed by Nissan Altima in 8th with 30.976 sales and a share of 2.1%, down 0.1 points from July.

Toyota Prius was back in top ten, landing in 9th, up 3 spots, with 27.358 units and a share of 1.8%, stable from the previous month, followed by Toyota Corolla in 10th with 26.861 sales and a share of 1.8%, down 0.1 from July.
