World Best-selling Car Model Ranking. Sales Statistics at September 2013.

This report is made thanks to the focus2move database, which includes monthly sales for over 90 markets, over 100 brands and more than 1.500 different models. Data are updated following their release by official sources and are subject to adjustments any month. However, based on our experience, while single numbers will change a little, ranking is not subject to changes. We report also full year 2012 final data, to allow you a comparison with the past. Toyota Corolla was the best-selling light vehicle sold worldwide in the first nine months 2013, confirming the leadership for the 9th consecutive year, after that last year Ford Focus seriously challenged the leadership ending the year with a gap of less than 10.000 units. Nothing out of the over 1 million sales posted last year both by Corolla and Focus!

Year to date September, Toyota Corolla sold 842.507 units, projecting a full 2013 volume above 1.1 million that will represent the new all-time record. This number do not include sales of Toyota Auris, that ranked 172nd with over 86.000 sales.

Ford Focus was second with 815.456 units, a gap of 27.000 that could not be closed in the last quarter of the year. This data do not include the MPV version, sold under the nameplate C-Max in Europe and U.S. obtaining 88.800 sales and ranked 165th. In September, Focus was ahead of Corolla, just thanks to the exceptional sales volume achieved by the British market. During the year, Focus was market leader in March as well, again when UK market has a strong seasonality.

Ford F-Series, the American icon confirmed its third place worldwide with 657.767 sales defending the podium from the aggressive growth of Hyundai Elantra, which advanced in fourth place, up 2 spots from last year, with 629.850 units sold.

Toyota Camry was 5th with 593.040 sales, followed by Chevrolet Cruze at 537.660 and by Honda CR-V, 7th with 520.157 sales 3 spots ahead of last year. However, there are others three models very near challenging the CR-V until the end of the year.

Volkswagen Golf was 8th, losing one spot in the rump up of last generation, with 517.020 sales, only 1.200 more than the leader of compact cars, Ford Fiesta, sold in 515.859 units and able in September to surge in fourth place. Last year the leader among compact cars was Volkswagen Polo that now is just behind of Fiesta, in 10th place with a gap of 4.000 units.

Toyota Prius, the hybrid icon, ranked in 14th place, down 3 spots from last year with 416.620 units. This data don’t include sales of the Japanese MPV version, named Aqua, leader in that market with over 266.000 sales and ranked 49th worldwide.

Wuling Hongguang in 17th place was the fastest model this year taking the leadership among light commercial vehicles with 3781.206 sales.
