World Best Selling Compact Cars segment in 2021 final data drops 1.4% with 9.9 million global sales. The Toyota Corolla keeps dominating the ranking, followed by the Honda Civic and the Hyundai Elantra. The Mazda 3 enters the leaderboard, rising 4 spots.
In 2021 final data, as in the past few years, the best-selling compact car remains the Toyota Corolla with 1,147k sales, holding 11.6% market share. Produced in Japan since 1966, the Corolla has been the best-selling nameplate in the World for 20 years and is also the best-selling car in all history, with over 45 million sold so far.
In second place we have the Honda Civic with 587k units sold (5.9% share). Launched in 1972, it is actually at the 10th generation (since 2016), available with 3/4/5 doors. The 2017 volume was boosted by the last generation distribution in all countries (over 140) including Europe, where the model is produced in the UK (for hatch version) and Turkey (for the sedan).
In third place we have the Hyundai Elantra -up 4 spots- with 333k sales and 3.4% share.
In fourth position there is the Volkswagen Golf with 317k sales (3.2% share) followed by the Volkswagen Bora with 248k units (2.5% share), and the Volkswagen Sagitar with 236k sales (2.4% share).
In seventh place the Toyota Levin -rising 3 spots- with 223k sales (2.3% share) followed by the Mazda 3 -rising 4 spots- with 213k units (2.2% share), the Geely Emigrand EC7 with 211k units (2.1% share) and in 10th place the Mercedes A Class -down 4 spots– with 210k units (1.8% share).
