World Best Selling SUV 2016 ranking again in the hands of Honda CR-V, first time over three-quarters million, while the segment grew at 27 million globally, the 26% of total vehicles sold.
The SUV segment (including all size of cars) is the fastest growing globally reaching in the 2016 the record volume of 27.1 million units, more than one-fourth of global light vehicles sales, up an impressive 20.2%.
The race for the leadership among the best Sport Vehicles Utilities was tough in the 2016 due to the success of the last generation of Toyota RAV4, but at the end the winner was always the same, the Honda CR-V.
Indeed this year the Honda model was sold globally in 752.000 units, up 5.8%, a phenomenal score considering the simultaneous success of the new HR-V, a smaller SUV made by Honda, jumped in the 16th place (from 27th) causing a certain level of cannibalization from the biggest SUV of the made brand.
The three-quarter of million was a milestone hit by the CR-V and the new all time record for a SUV.
The second best SUV performance was great as well, considering the Toyota RAV4 recorded 723.000 sales, up 9.4% and considering the launch of a huge number of new SUV all over the World.
Phenomenal was the score of the third, the Hyundai Tucson, able to double the volume thanks to the outstanding success of the last generation sold in 639.053 units, up 110.2%, annihilating the former third, the Haval 6, able to improve over 50%, but not to avoid losing the third step of the podium.
In fifth place the Volkswagen Tiguan, down 2 spots, with 519.000 sales (+2.7%), the new record for the model, followed by the Kia Sportage with 492.000 (+9.3%) and the Nissan Qashqai with 449.000 (+25.9%).
In eight place the Nissan X-Trail, at new record of 412.000 units (+8.0%) ahead of the Nissan Rogue with 373.000 (+14.2%) and in 10th place the only models losing volumes out of the best 12, the Ford Escape with 371.000 (-0.4%).
Raising stars arrive from China, with the GAC Trumpchi GS4 jumped in 14th place from 58th with 326.000 sales and the Baojun 560 landed in 15th with 321.000.
