Best Selling Auto Brands Ranking in 2023 still dominated by Toyota. The Japanese leader is on top for the 14th year in a row. However, the ran report BYD up in 9th place as the rising star.

 

The Global Auto Brands Ranking

Sourcing local Minister of Transportation or deputy agencies, we collect new light vehicles registrations, country by country, brand by brand, in 159 markets worldwide. Extracting data for our Global Auto Database we are able to report on this ranking as several others.

Said this, the 2023 ranking regarding the best selling auto brands in the World is showing few changes on the top, but a real revolution in the positions immediately after, witnessing the growth of companies specialized in electric vehicles.

On top, as happening uninterruptedly since 2010 and so, for the 14th year in a row, the Japanese Toyota, selling 9.07 million vehicles, over 1.5 million below the all time record, but a +4.1% from the previous year.

Volkswagen, in 2nd position, holds 6.0% of the global market, having sold 5.1 million cars (+7.0%).

In third place Honda with 3.9 million units sold (+3.7%).

In fourth place Hyundai sold 3.8 million (+5.5%) was followed by Ford with 3.7 million (+4.4%), Nissan at 3.3 million (+8.5%), Chevrolet with 3.29 million, Kia with 3.0 million units sold (+2.2%).

In nine place, advancing from the 11th in the previous the Chinese BYD with 2.6 million sales (+48.8%). While BYD is an EV specialist they still sell ICE vehicles (representing over the half of company sales). In 2019 BYD ranking was the 49th!

In 10th place Mercedes with 2.2 million sales (+0.6%) again the leader in the premium segment ahead of BMW (11th with 2.2 million as well).
