World’s largest 25 Car Markets in 2012 rose 6%. Germany tumbled down.

In December 2012, total World’s light passenger vehicles market (cars, pick-ups and light commercials) was 6.9 million units, up 4.6% from last year. Full Year 2012 sales were 80.0 million, up 6.4% from last year.

The Top 25 Car Markets posted 6.1 million sales, up 4.6% from last year with Full Year sales of 71.5 million units.

In December, the main fact was the 16% drop reported by Germany which open further negative scenario for the EU region, already penalized by recession and high unemployment.

2012 did not reported changes in the Top 6 countries ranking. However, while Germany in 5th was very close to Brazil a year ago, now its gap grew at around 300.000 units.

India outpaced France gaining the 7th place and UK surged in 8th, with France only 9th, while Italy fell from 10th to 12th, behind Canada and South Korea.

Thailand jumped in 13rd from 19th, after a spectacular 80% of sales increase. Indonesia was strong as well, climbing in 16h place from the 20th, while Spain dropped from 15th to 19th, Turkey from 17th to 20th and Belgium from 21st to 25th.

Data referred to Iran are our best estimate, while all other countries data are updated with the most recent official released.
