Yemen Auto Market in First Half 2016 was battered. Nissan and BMW exploded, while Hyundai and Suzuki fell from the podium in 7th and 5th. The Nissan Patrol interrupted the domain of Toyota.

 Market Outlook

The war caused the deaths of thousands of people and devastated the economy. Oil and gas exports have been suspended and the risk of famine is increasing as importers struggle to secure trade financing.

The sales trend of Yemenite vehicles market has been negative, in fact the registrations collapsed inexorably in double digit year to date. The most damage were recorded in June.

According to local sources, the new year started with 738 units (-49.6%) followed by two months even worse with 617 and 727 sales, down respectively 58.1% and 51.3%. In April the losses seemed to recede declining 45.0% at 290 units. May and June were fiery with the drop down in sales by 74.1% and 81.7%, with only 131 and 113 sales.

During the first half the total light vehicles sales had been 2.632, collapsing 57.2% compared with the correspondent period of the 2015.

Competitive Arena

In the first half of 2016 Toyota was the brand leader with 2.014 sales (-58.5%) and 76.6% of market share followed -at a huge distance – by Nissan with 177 (+124.1%) and BMW with 84 (+740.0%).

As far as the Car Groups performance, the leader was Toyota Group with 77.3% of market share, ahead of Renault-Nissan with 6.7%, Hyundai-Kia with 3.7% and BMW with 3.2%.

The best-selling model as again the Toyota Hilux with 1.481 units followed by the Toyota Land Cruiser P/U with 431 and the Nissan Patrol with 156.
